GivingTuesday is a huge movement on social media. Harness the power of the movement in your donation appeals to your supporters leading into the annual fundraising day, which will be celebrated on December 3 this year. Here are six things to post that will help you raise more on the big day.

One Week Out

Post a message about GivingTuesday on all of your social channels that includes how much you’re trying to raise, what the funds will go to, and a call-to-action to donate and share the campaign with friends and family on December 3. Make sure to include a beautiful photograph. Flickr Creative Commons or Unspash are good places to look if you’re nonprofit doesn’t have access to good photographs.

Thanksgiving — 5 Days out

Post on all of your social profiles giving thanks to your supporters on Thanksgiving. Don’t include any call-to-action other than a reminder that GivingTuesday is 6 days away.

Black Friday —4 Days out

Black Friday is a viral sensation that everyone knows about and that millions of Americans participate in. Use that to remind donors about GivingTuesday. Your social posts can include something like, “don’t spend it all on Black Friday deals, we need help hitting our goal for GivingTuesday.” To contrast your nonprofit and products for sale on Black Friday, post pictures of your staff or constituents doing good work.

Cyber Monday — 1 Day Out

Use a similar message in social posts for Cyber Monday: “We know you’re scanning for Cyber Monday deals but we just wanted to give you another reminder that GivingTuesday is tomorrow and we need your support to hit our goal.” Make sure to include a good photo of your team or constituents.

GivingTuesday — Morning Of

Post on all social accounts the morning of the big day and include a call-to-action, details about your campaign, and a sense of urgency. Ask your followers not only to donate, but also to share with friends and family that they’re supporting your cause. They can start fundraising campaigns on your behalf too, by clicking, “I Want To Fundraise For This” on your page. If you have an image or story or social post that has attracted a lot of engagement in the past, consider reusing it for GivingTuesday. You want to put your best foot forward the morning of.

GivingTuesday — Rest of the Day

You should post more than once on every major social channel during GivingTuesday. Facebook and Twitter are great places to post progress updates about your fundraising campaigns. Tell your followers how much left you have to go and encourage them to support your cause. Twitter will be flooded with the official hashtag, so get creative to catch as many eyes as possible there. Share any supportive messages you’ve gotten from donors throughout the week too. Donors are known to give more than once on GivingTuesday, so keep up your social posts to capture repeat givers.

Now, get started implementing your GivingTuesday social strategy. As always, if you need any help, the Give Lively team is happy to provide assistance.
